Today, Bee Fong presented her research on Michael Bruce Ross (I think it's his name) And anyway, this guy was sentenced to death by the court despite being mentally unstable because he raped and killed 8 women. He was excuted by lethel injection. This brings us to a very debatable topic: Capital Punishment.
Our class argued about the justification of capital punishment on Michael, because the state has abolished the capital punishment for the past 40 years until he came into the picture. Some of the class thought there could be better ways to punish him. Samuel thinks he should recieve counselling and mental treatment. He says that an eye for an eye is nv ending. With this i agree, but Elyse, or was it devi, brought out the fact that it's not a child poking another in the eye. It is about an adult, one who has completed university education, brutally raping and then killing 8 women over 3 years. Who would be responsible for their death if he goes scot-free because he is mentally unstable?
And I was thinking, that death by lethel injection is too light for him. seriously, think about this. his 8 victims, all with perfectly normal lives, was tortured(by rape) and later killed by him. 8 people! In s'pore, smuggling of firearms could be punished by hanging. Imagine, you suffocate to death but you cannot struggle cuz ur hands r tied up. compare this to giving you 3 injections. which way would you prefer to die? Injection, if i were to choose. a painless and peaceful way to die. And so i asked bee fong "do you think death by lethekl injection is too light a punishment for him?" Mrs Tan laughed. I think she think's I'm sadistic. Samuel mentioned that he could be put into prison for life, but wait. Prison for life? Serious? Why should people like us pay tax to the government to support murders for the next, say, 50 yrs of their life, while all they do is sit in the cell and wait for death? Doesn't sound that fair does it? HuiMin thinks i'm super evil, which I don't deny cuz tt's really wad i think.

I juz finished watching 霍元甲... Wth la... the hero died in the end!! -_-" Died of poisoning. That Jap businessman was a real sucker. The movie was great, seeing Jet Lee kick butt most of the time. And he took 7 years to realise that he has to go back to his home. But he went back to the village! (as a ghost.) Stupid, sad ending. Urgh. I wasn't all that impressed with him in the 1st part of the movie, i thought he was rather childish and didn't understand what his parents and his best fren was trying to teach him. He did learn eventually (like, after 7 yrs, after both his parents and his child died) Which is super sad case.
I shouldn't be thinking so much. It's a movie, enjoy it. tt's most important. I enjoyed it.

went to do cip today with toddler, wanxuan and elyse. we're super helpful but there wasn't much to do. there were too many volunteers and not many ppl needing help to do e-filing. And we saw Tonny!! It went like this:
Todd: "That guy looks like Tonny." *points to blue shirt guy walking behind someone.*
Me: "Ya hor." *looks carefull*
Me: "It IS Tonny!"
Todd: *hides*
Hahahahaha... and he didn't see us. Until he came downstairs again. And he didn't want us to help do e filing, cuz he scared we'll know how much he earn (and extort him). Hahahahaha...
And Cheeki thinks Todds and I have 'ying(1) mou(2)'. Cuz we got nothing better to do, so we chat. And we decided that cheeki was very nice yesterday. So we decided to treat him to ice cream (since Swensens have the $1 ice cream till nxt Fri) And he was like "Hey Euny, we kai(1) men(2) jian(4) shan(1), you 2 got wad ying(1) mou(2)" Wth la. but someone got tuition, so too bad! Hahahaha...
and we sms chat with Cui. cuz we see alot of meow meows. and Cui was super evil, so i ask him to go jump off a tree or something. Elyse was super funny. cuz there's one meow meow wearing orange, so Elyse named him 'Garfield'. LOL!!
ice-cream is nice :)

Hardcore outing today was nice!! It's been quite some time since we had a get together. Actually we didn't do much since we met up quite late (around 3, since everyone was late).
We played pool!!! pool is so nice! yvonne and i make good pool players!! cuz we ended the game fast! (actually, we moved the black ball in front of the hole and yea, it went in) And that stupid Cheeki, didn't tell us that he got bring IC -.- we nv got to see his IC though (though toddies n i did try, unsuccessfully.) And we played arcade!! I so rox at Bishi Bashi!! (not to mention i suck at Daytona) At the next arcade, cui tried to scoop some toy thingy (since toddies n i agreed that it's fun) and he didn't win aything. Cuz there was time limit and cui took his own sweet time and in the end, he didnt let the toy drop at a position he wanted. hahahaha....
Someone suggested watching movie, so we went to the cinema. I wanna watch "urs, mine and ours" but the guys protested. So we settled on "V for Vendetta" Throughout the whole movie, we didn't know what the main character looked like, or wad was his name. He's simply know as 'V' with a mask. And I didn't understand some parts of the movie, like the St Mary incident and the 3 waters. And why there was this stupid lab tt used humans for tests. And that Chancellor was totally crap. Killed by his own subordinates who wanted to arrest V. (why the hell do they wanna do tt when the Chancellor is dead) He died a coward. And it's quite weird that alot of army is looking after a parliment house when there's no Chancellor inside, and all the head of the politicial party all killed by V. And when protestors tried to storm the Parliment house, the army juz stood there cuz the commander said to put down their guns. and the protestors juz walk past the army. -.-
I came out of the movie saying "V for Vinny!". It wasn't such a bad show afterall.
And Cheeki was very nice today!! Cuz he treated HC to pool! And chocolate. Which is very nice to eat! (and super ex!)Thank you Cheeki! :)

"I had a dream, a song to sing..."
I had a dream, but it wasn't a pleasant one. In fact, it was quiet messed up. In my dream, I was back into my childish secondary school days. I saw my buddy looking sad, so I asked her "What's up?" She told me "xxx is going to die." I thought she was kidding. The next moment, I was on top of a high building. Looking down, I saw the road below. It was very high; it reminded me of looking down from the 12th floor when I was a kid.
And suddenly, I heard the news that xxx had died. Committed suicide. I wasn't particularly close to her, but I started crying. Then I woke up. Afraid. I couldn't get back to sleep. I stayed awake for the next not-sure-how-long before drifting slowly back to sleep again.
Conclusion: My dreamcatcher sucks.

Headline: Leaving the back door open to Islamic law
SALIM OSMAN Indonesia Correspondent In Jakarta
RESTAURANT worker Lilis Lindawati was waiting for a bus after work late onenight last month when a police van pulled up and a team of officers took heraway.
Her crime: She was alone after 7pm in a street near a red-light district inTangerang city, near Jakarta. She was accused of being a sex worker.
The next day she was charged in a civil court with being a prostitute, andwhen she could not prove otherwise, she was fined 300,000 rupiah (S$51) or eight days' jail in default. Never mind that she was a married woman, and pregnant at the time.
Her teacher husband Kustoyo, 40, did not have the money to pay her fine, soLilis spent a week behind bars.
She was prosecuted under a new local by-law that forbids women from beingout alone at night or with men not their husbands.
It is one of several rules for Muslims which city mayor Wahidin Halimintroduced in January.
Critics call it a back-door introduction of aspects of syariah or Islamiclaw in a country that prides itself on being a secular state.
The new rules also ban Muslims from kissing or embracing in public, orperforming acts that may be deemed erotic and indecent. Muslims are also banned from gambling and drinking alcohol. These offences bring a penalty of up to three months' jail or 15 million rupiah fines.
Mayor Wahidin told The Straits Times: 'We want to stamp out vices such as prostitution, pornographyand obscene acts in line with my mission to uphold akhlakul karimah in thiscity.' That is Arabic for 'exemplary conduct'.
The mayor is not alone. Tangerang is among 16 cities in West Java, WestSumatra, South Sulawesi and Kalimantan which, in the past three years, haveintroduced local laws based on syariah law. Aside from anti-vice laws, there are also rules forcing women and girls towear Islamic clothes and headscarves, and those that set standards ofproficiency in reciting the Quran and for the payment of religious tithes. For now, falling foul of these brings a reprimand at most. Local officials claim they have the power to introduce such laws for their own districts, thanks to political reforms after the fall of former president Suharto.
Besides, they say, they are only meeting the demands of Indonesia's Muslim masses. 'We just want to help the people observe the religious teachings andmaintain the tradition,' Padang Mayor Fauzi Bahar told The Straits Times. But critics say that the regional leaders, backed by Muslim groups andpolitical parties that want syariah law introduced, are politically motivatedand out to safeguard their positions. Indonesian women's rights groups view the mandatory dress code and the banon women moving about alone at night as unwarranted restrictions on women's rights.
'It's gender biased,' said Ms Zohra Andi Baso of the Makassar-based SouthSulawesi Women's Forum. Analyst Dr Syafi'i Anwar, executive director of the Jakarta-basedInternational Centre for Islam and Pluralism, said: 'These are signs ofcreeping syariah-isation' of Indonesia. 'It's like enforcing syariah law through the back door.'
Despite being the world's largest Muslim nation, Indonesia is avowedlysecular and its legal system is non-religious. It implements some aspects of syariah law through Islamic courts which dealwith matters concerning marriage, divorce, inheritance, and religiousendowment. But it does not implement hudud, the criminal aspects of syariah thatprescribe punishments such as amputation of hands for thieves, whipping forreligious offences and stoning to death for adultery.
Previous bids to amend the country's 1945 Constitution and introduce syariahlaw have failed, with stiff resistence from not only non-Muslims but alsoMuslims who believe religion is a personal matter.
Recent actions by local officials to implement syariah-like laws are nowseen as a way around that resistence.
Even leaders of two mass-based Islamic organisations, the Muhammadiyah andthe Nahdhlatul Ulama, are against the recent moves.
The rector of the Jakarta-based State Islamic University of SyarifHidayatullah, Dr Azyumardi Azra, notes that the regional officials have steeredclear of imposing hudud laws 'because there would be an uproar in the country'if they did so.
Some of the new by-laws were enacted as early as 2003, but received scantattention initially because they were not enforced strictly. Last year, there was a furore in Padang when the mayor banned women fromtravelling alone at night and made the headscarf part of the uniform forschoolgirls and women civil servants. He subsequently withdrew the ban on women being out at night and clarifiedthat the headscarves rule did not apply to non-Muslims. But peer pressure has forced many non-Muslim schoolgirls and civil servantsto abide by rules on dressing, and that has upset scholars and human rightsactivists too.
Asked why the central government did not step in sooner, analyst Indra J.Piliang of the Jakarta-based think-tank, the Centre for Strategic andInternational Studies, said: 'I think the government was trying to be cautiousbecause religion is a sensitive matter.' Muslim-based political parties have so far remained silent, for fear ofupsetting the Muslim ground. Only the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) of Mr Hidayat Nurwahid, chairman ofthe National People's Assembly, backs the regional officials' actions.
The party wants syariah law introduced and is a key supporter of theYudhoyono administration. The nationalist Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) of formerpresident Megawati Sukarnoputri has said that introducing syariah law would bea 'gigantic step backwards' for the country. Party secretary-general Pramono Anung said there is also the fear of abacklash in regions where Muslims are not in the majority. Bali, for example, is predominantly Hindu, while North Sulawesi and Malukuare mainly Christian and Papua, Catholic. Home Minister Muhammad Ma'ruf has promised to review the by-laws to weed outthose that contravene the Constitution and the laws allowing regional autonomy.
But while Jakarta takes its time, more regions may go with the trend andintroduce similar laws too. And more women like Lilis might land in jail for no other reason than beingout alone at night.
I quote my former principal, Ms Lo "Think about it."

Headline: Unfair to say youths lost spirit of volunteerism after overseas trip
I was quite surprised at the implication of the article "Youth aid projects: No more one-off stints" (ST, March 12) which seemed to imply that the volunteers under the Youth Expedition Programme ran by Singapore International Foundation did not continue with volunteerism upon their return from expeditions.
...
...
...
Another part of the "exisiting strategy" was also mentioned in the article - "take youth volunteerism beyond being a single project and just a few days of involvement."
I would like to point out that the YEP projects then ran for two to three weeks, and they required many weeks of preparation beforehand (and also afterward, if you count the presentations and the volunteer work they did, and are still doing, upon their return).
--
I so agree with the writer of the letter. Overseas community project is not a 'one-off thing' which the volunteers participate in for 'a few days'. Having been involved in 2 overseas community involvment projects myself, the latest one last year, I can safely say that overseas community projects are definately a one-off thing. The writer mentions that it takes many weeks (we took months) of preparation beforehand. Without commitment, it is impossible for this project to succeed. On top of that, we had to juggle studies, promo exams, cca, and everything else in our lives with the OCIP programme. After the trip, we involved ourselves in the CNY celebrations preparation for residents of the Chershire home. (hope i spell correctly) Everyone in the team played a part, from fund-rising to helping out on the actual day itself. It is therefore absolutely unfair to say that it's 'a single project and just a few days of involvement'.

My Trip to JB
While some of my friends were enjoying at SPA, I went JB shopping with my parents yesterday. Shopping with parents is good, because I can get them to pay!!! But the bad thing is i'll prolly haf to force them (or beg like mad, whichever sounds nicer) to buy wadeva i wan. Anyway, i bought a new wallet!!! i am so happy!!!! cuz it looks very nice!! i think nana will love it. cheeki says it will prolly suit nana more. stupid cheeki. anyway, i juz love it!!! wahahahahahahahaha.... And I had s sumptous meal at Secret Reciepe. Lagsana + Brownie with ice cream + ice lemon tea = less than S$10!! Super shiok! Heng my Dad nv take my advice and order cake as well, otherwise we'll become one of those toys I have in my room: stuffed.
Anyway, my Dad, being Dad, decided that we should take a bus to the next shopping center (he regretted, u'll see y later). He sat right at the back of the bus, while Mum and mi sat at the 2ns last seats. So Dad was behind us with 2 other indians. Halfway thru the journey, Mr Weirdo came up the bus and sat at the last row. And there was a Malay guy as well. So the last row was taken up by my Dad, the 2 indians, Mr Weirdo and the malay.
Then we smell something disgusting. Nono, it isn't shit. It's cigrette. Disgusting, low-grade cigrette. The Indian guy was freaking smoking on the bus!!! And, according to my Dad, the asked the other 2 indians where they live. The reply was 'ulu something' (aiyah, i cant remb) Anyway, they live at the end of the whole bus route. Then Mr Weirdo asked if they had handphones. the guy said yes. Mr Weirdo took it and called someone and chatted with it. wth. and he returned it to the other guy. -.- so diaoz. the guy, after taking back his hp, immediately got off the bus with his friend. Mr Weirdo got down soon after. Thankfully.
What a weirdo.

我不想 我不想 不想长大
长大后世界就没有花
我不想 我不想 不想长大
我宁愿永远又笨又傻
Lyrics from S.H.E's 不想长大, courtesy of baidu.com... On my way home from school, I heard this song on my mp3. Me, being me, starting thinking too much. Is is realistic to 不想长大? I remember when I was still in primary school, things were so simple then. I was less conscious of the things happening around me, of the people around me, and even less self-consciousness. Which is kind of good, because I don't think too much, and I was so much happier then. I threw tantrums when I felt like it, and I don't have to worry about making my friend angry because the next day, we would all forget about it and be friends once again.
As I proceed on the secondary school, I learnt that this is not real life. I resent growing up. Growing up = expected to know more things = not fun liao. But as I go on, I realise this is not possible. I remember when I was in Sec 1, when the 9-11 attacks just happened. One of my Muslim friends said "I'm proud of Osama! I think he's damm right!" I scolded her for it, and things almost turned ugly. (I'm glad it didn't, or I would be beaten to pulp, since she was in takwando, and I could hardly fight) Then, a friend stopped me. She said "Let her think what she wants lah, you can't do anything about it." When I understood that, I sort of grew up a little. I learnt that different people have different point of view, and even if I don't agree with it, I cannot condemn it as 'wrong' because there is nothing absolutely right ir wrong. It depends on point of view, and we have to respect each other's point of view.
Being '永远又笨又傻' is not a solution. Grow up, learn to respect one another's point of view and feelings, and perhaps, I'll feel better knowing that i have 长大.

I am a little pissed with my Dad... cuz he refuses to listen. You see, it goes like this...
my Mum heard from her collegue that one of the collegue's fren got a fine for downloading things but apparently, his internet access was being abused by someone else using another com. and so my Mum asked my Dad to ask our com repairman(my dad's fren) if we can do anything to prevent this from happening to us. And my Dad keep saying "It's not possible for anyone to use our Internet without our password." to which i told him "They can cut into our line when we're onlinem juz like connecting 2 com to 1 internet cable." Then he keep insisting cannot, talking as if he knew much more about the internet than i do (not that he does, and not that i noe alot either). We were practically quarrelling about the issue. I got pissed when he said "I want to close this argument, I show you." and he called my Bro out. Hello? Like who's the one who keep insisting he's right.
And comes my Bro to the rescue! He said "Yes, got such thing." Then my Dad say "Aiyah, but then got no way to stop ma." And my Bro was like, "No, actually I installed a programme liao, our internet is safe." And my Dad refuse to believe lah. Crap. Wadever he wants. My Mum complained abt to me abt how my Dad refuse to listen and I was like "Aiyah, he dun listen dun listen lor, like wad can we do." and went back to using my MSN.
And oh ya!! I got a very cute picture!! I show you!!

See? This is Selina's dog, her name is Pinky. And she's sticking out her tongue!! OMG!! So cute!! But the pic quite blur, cuz taken from a video (i think). So cute rite??? It's my current DP. i think i haf good taste!! Wahahaha....
And today was CCA bazzar. Can't say much, but I had fun playing with darts :P I actually hit the bull's eye!! (like once only) but i still hit!! Crispy n Cui didn't see, and they dun believe me!! :( so sad case. i really did lor!! 25 ppl signed up today, which is not bad business (though mayb half wun turn up eventually) but still, is not bad.

Today was a long day.
it started with me being happy being i found my econs lect notes (which i tot i lost on thur). And guess what? I didn't bring maths lect notes to school! end up sitting down there stone, cuz ysd tuition time go thru integrating product liaoz, and the example exactly the same summore~! Ridiculous man. Sit there n stone. then was GP. at least quite fun. listen to jasmine tok about Bono and lirong's research about the Pope. Then crap alot. GP lessons seem to pass very fast when having presentation.
the was chem SPA. I sian diao, cuz during the SPA i tot i screwed up. Experiment A i do 3 times!! first, i didn't stopper properly, gas escape (forgot to wet the stopper). Next, i forget to add HN before the expt!! Then i was still thinking why my solution's colour looks different from the others. Do finish liao then realise!! Can die sia. Then bo pian, do again, this time better. Experiment B, i thought i screwed up. cuz the values very close to each other, on the graph it's super close to each others. i tot sure gone case liao. then ong said it's actually same solution. -.- wth la. SPA is so lame.
i played squash today!! and i wasn't really bad at it, i juz keep hitting the balls in the wrong directions. oops! haha... it was quite fun. the racket is much lighter and the ball much easier to hit then tennis. and i was sweating like mad, so i tie my hair up. then nana say i look like auntie like tt. -.- damm sad.
and here comes the best part of the day! my perfect entertainment: cheeki. Cheeki is gd as entertainment cuz he is very nice to scold and laugh at, and since i'm so darn nice to pei him go buy his bag, he treated mi to ice-cream. Swensons offer, $1 for 2nd ice cream. Damm shiok! abt $7++ for 2 ice-creams. Shiok man. And we sat there n chatted for quite long.
then went back to watch Bai Yun Gang 2006. The scriptwriter abit weird, the characters of both stories abit psycho de. The 1st story abit weird de. Ending oso abit weird. half of the characters died. the second story better, cuz happy ending at least. But the constant turning on and off the light to change scene abit irritating.
Overall, it had been a good day.

Shan't waste anymore time being pissed over something nothing worthy of being pissed. Shall talk about other things...
We got our AO Chinese results today. Happy initially, but after thinking over it, wasn't tt happy anymore. I find that I'm never satisfied, ever. Initially, when i thought A was almost unattainable, i aimed for a B. But after getting A2, I felt that A1 is attainable, and i am thinking of re-sitting the paper. I got my desired distinction for oral though, that is something to be pleased about. I tricked Min into thinking she got C (She was absent today). Haha... After that I called her to tell her she got a B3. In a very blur state, she went:
me: "U got B3 la stupid!"
min: "huh? u B ah? B wad?"
me: "YOU got B!! YOU!! YOU!! B3!!" *was screaming*
min: "huh? i got B3 ah? for wad?"
I almost exploded at this point. Argh!! She finally got it after like, 2 minutes?
Mrs Tan was all smiles when we went into the CT room to collect our results. She kept saying "Well done!" and she never stop smiling. Scary. This is like the 1st time I saw her like that? Our class got all As and Bs. Well done people! =)
When I went out of class, I met Nananana... She said I looked like I was gonna cry. A little disappointed maybe, but seriously, I wasn't gonna cry. Nothing to worry about there, Nana. I'm alright.
We saw the 04 batch of students collecting their results today. And the statistics for our school. Damm sad. only 88% pass for GP (if there are 800 students, 96 failed) which is super sad case!!! fail gp = cannot go U. which is very sad la! Anyway, saw my sec sch senior, Sophia go on stage. She got 4As. Congrats man! Conclusion: Guides people are quite smart :P Next year, I bet Apple will be one of those on stage. And oh, got 5 people from 04S5A go on stage!! they proved Ong wrong la. Ong said S5A in general do worst among the S5 classes. Hmm. Hope we can prove him wrong also. Do better than this yr S5A batch = our aim.
I love Eleanor!! Cuz she says I look smart (indirectly). I met her today and she was like asking "Wad class u having now?" I replied "Econs." Eleanor, looking a lil surprised, then asked "Wad class u from?" I told her "S5A lor." And she was like "Aren't u from S9?" I dots. She say I got f maths face and since f maths ppl r smart (generally, but this doesn't apply to toddlers), therefore, I look smart!! Yea!!
