Today, Bee Fong presented her research on Michael Bruce Ross (I think it's his name) And anyway, this guy was sentenced to death by the court despite being mentally unstable because he raped and killed 8 women. He was excuted by lethel injection. This brings us to a very debatable topic: Capital Punishment.
Our class argued about the justification of capital punishment on Michael, because the state has abolished the capital punishment for the past 40 years until he came into the picture. Some of the class thought there could be better ways to punish him. Samuel thinks he should recieve counselling and mental treatment. He says that an eye for an eye is nv ending. With this i agree, but Elyse, or was it devi, brought out the fact that it's not a child poking another in the eye. It is about an adult, one who has completed university education, brutally raping and then killing 8 women over 3 years. Who would be responsible for their death if he goes scot-free because he is mentally unstable?
And I was thinking, that death by lethel injection is too light for him. seriously, think about this. his 8 victims, all with perfectly normal lives, was tortured(by rape) and later killed by him. 8 people! In s'pore, smuggling of firearms could be punished by hanging. Imagine, you suffocate to death but you cannot struggle cuz ur hands r tied up. compare this to giving you 3 injections. which way would you prefer to die? Injection, if i were to choose. a painless and peaceful way to die. And so i asked bee fong "do you think death by lethekl injection is too light a punishment for him?" Mrs Tan laughed. I think she think's I'm sadistic. Samuel mentioned that he could be put into prison for life, but wait. Prison for life? Serious? Why should people like us pay tax to the government to support murders for the next, say, 50 yrs of their life, while all they do is sit in the cell and wait for death? Doesn't sound that fair does it? HuiMin thinks i'm super evil, which I don't deny cuz tt's really wad i think.
